The Keystone Watch Case Co. Philadelphia, Riverside, N. J. in business from 1875 to 1956.
You usually know an old or out-of-date watch by its case—not always because the case shows wear but because it is out of style. As a rule, the better the case the better the design and the longer it stays in style. It is the worst possible economy to buy a cheap or a trashy watch case.
It is not fair to a good movement to put it in a poorly made case. Then, too, the case represents a substantial part of your watch investment—and if you want your money’s worth you must know who made the case as well as the movement. The Keystone Watch Case Co. Established 1883, Philadelphia

Collecting vintage Magazine ads.
Vintage magazine ads are a wrinkle in time that can be preserved for even longer when framed and given as gifts. Vintage ads soon turn into antiques and gain value as the years pass. This affordable gift is a wonderful choice to give to grandparents, and other family members. Give at occasions like weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, Christmas or any other memorable holiday or event. These are a great idea when shopping for a hard to buy for person.
Where to Find Vintage Advertising.
Vintage print ads come from old magazines, newspapers, and other periodicals The ads vary for products such as soups, soaps, home products, food, baby items and thousands more. Many brands of today can be found in vintage magazines. Some brands include Ivory, Ponds, and Pepsi. You may also see this advertising being called paper ephemera. Vintage Advertising can be found online and in local antique shops. Ebay and Ecrater are great sources of affordable vintage print advertisements.
How much do Vintage Print Ads Cost?
Vintage Magazine Print Ads can cost as low as $1 to hundreds of dollars. The ones that are mentioned in this article should cost no more than $10 unless it is so rare and you really a particular one that may be more on the expensive side. Sizes of these advertisements can vary too. Sizes can range from full page ads to small as three inches. Multiple ads can be found on one page and if you don't mind the mix buying that type of advertising page would be a good choice. Make sure before you purchase these items from the internet that it is an actual page from a vintage magazine and not a photocopy. You may want to check sellers feedback first.
Choosing the right Vintage Advertising .
A good way to pick out vintage ads for that special person is to find out what favorite things or interests he or she has. Does this person drink Pepsi like crazy? Why not find an authentic vintage Pepsi print ad. Maybe your grandfather loves Quaker Oatmeal and eats it every morning. Search Google for a vintage Quaker Oatmeal ad from the year he was born, it's that easy. Put the ad in a frame for his kitchen wall and he will proudly view the memorable gift you gave him every morning with his bowl of hot oatmeal.
If your brother loves cars give him a Vintage Car Advertisement for his wall. This may also be a great way you can help a younger family member start a hobby of collecting vintage ads. This is much like comic book collecting. If your vintage ad is not in a frame it should arrive in a plastic sleeve for safe keeping the same type of sleeves comic books are kept in.
If you really want to go all out with this gift you may want to purchase several ads and put them into a multi-frame. If your Grandmother bakes constantly why not put together vintage baking products advertising in a multi-frame. Vintage baking powder, gravy, and muffin mix, cake batter ads would be good choices for this gift.
Remember to write a nice little note card and include it with the gift. Include interesting information about the year, month and what magazine the ad(s) was published in. This will help the person receiving the gift to tell a story about it. Vintage magazine print advertisements are wonderful gifts and a great conversation starter at the very least.

Elgin Watches Vintage Ads
1924 Elgin took the time from the stars and puts it in your pocket
THE OLD HOMESTEAD OF FATHER TIME
All that we did know about time the astronomers have taught us. The only absolute measure at time was the stately procession of the stars as the revolution of the earth brings them across the zenith.
But, for convenience in the everyday affairs of men "time" must always mean what our watches tell us of the passing human hours, minutes and seconds. So one of the great practical services of the astronomer was to contribute star-time precision to the making of watches for men and women.
And as the Elgin Professional Watch Makers were never satisfied to do anything by halves, years ago they established a Time Observatory at the Elgin Watch Factory, for the sole purpose of taking star observations. And so supplying the most precise time standards to the making of Elgin Watches.
All Through the Elgin Factories the electric sounders were reproducing the ticks of the Observatory Master Clock checked by star-time. Every process in adjusting and timing the Elgin Railroad Watch carried by the conductor and engineer at your morning train was performed in the light of these standards.
So, too, with your own pocket watch; your Elgin Strap Watch; the Elgin Wrist Watch you gave to your wife or daughter. No a single watch ever came from Elgin but gainned in professional timekeeping character from the work of the Elgin Time Observatory.
Nor is this all. To every man and woman in the Elgin factories, the Time Observatory was an inspiration a constant reminder of their obligation to all who bought Elgin Watches.
The watch-owner, too, felts the inspiration in higher understanding of timekeeping standards, and the desire for better and better watches. And the Time Observatory of the Elgin Watch came in a peculiar and literal sense to be the "Old Homestead of Father Time."

The Elgin watches were triumphs both inside and out. Styles so stunning and original that they won the 1949 Fashion Academy Award. And beneath their beauty—more excitement sill —the miracle DuralPower Mainspring. No other watch in the world had such dependable power for accurate timekeeping.
If You examined them in 1894 at the express office and if they were the greatest bargain you ever saw, you paid the express agent $7.95 and express charges and 100 cigars and Elgin gold plated watch were yours. If you did send $7.95 with your order they prepay express and gave a gold plated chain free. What you think about that.
An Elgin Watch is a gift for a lifetime and a constant reminder of the giver. All jewelers have Elgin watches in various sizes and cases. Every Elgin watch is fully guaranteed.
An illustrated history of the watch sent free.
ELGIN NATIONAL WATCH CO.
The Streamline Series of Watches brought the Elgin Company into the limelight as designers of complete watches. For fifty years (in 1917) this great organization had designed and built watch movements of world famous excellence. In 1917 it was designing both movement and case as a complete unit, under the Elgin guarantee.
The Streamline was a man's watch, dressed in a style that will last perfect balance, perfect harmony of case and movement. The design was notable for its smoothly flowing lines. The "close up" view at the left shows how the bow flows into the pendant, and the pendant into the curve of the case. The dial was equally distinctive.
Jewelers took pride in showing the $50 Streamline and the $25 Streamline, also Elgin Bracelet Watches for women. Illustrated folders were sent on request.
"TWIST this hook around the dial," murmured an audacious courtier to Madame Pompadour in 1752 "as you twist our empire 'round your finger"
"Watchmaker to Louis XV," this daring stripling styled himself.
The Key-less Watch, his shrewd gift to France's fair dictator in the moonlit gardens of Versailles proved the key to power. Swiftly he rose: music master to the royal sisters-secretary to Louis himself from Caron, the watchmaker's son, to de Beaumarchais, the idol of France, whose "Barber of Seville" and "Marriage of Figaro" hastened the dawn of the Reign of" Terror.
To America, Caron's gifts were three-fold. His filibuster fleets bore enormous cargoes of arms to the aid of our Revolutionists; his brilliant dramas are cherished to this day by our opera lovers; and his Key-less Watch, though too small to be entirely practicable, helped to blaze the trait for those modern marvels of dainty compactness and precision- Elgin Watches.
